unless the mat is made of that jelly type soft plastic, i would think it would be uncomfortable to lick and maybe cause the tongue to get sore depending on how aggressively the cat licked it.

I am a mad lickimat fan and have them for my 2 dogs and 3 cats – best things ever! I stopped using pet bowls after discovering these. Not hard at all so doosn’t hurt their tongues. I love using the soother one for the cats as I wear it’s helping reduce hairballs. Would highly reccommend for cats and dogs.
