Fans of Louis Wain won’t want to miss this special art exhibit opening tomorrow in Denver, CO! The Threyda Gallery is featuring an exhibition titled “Far Out Felines” centered around six original pieces from renowned feline visionary Louis Wain. The pieces are from a private collection and include a range of Wain’s styles from early illustrations to his later psychedelic abstractions. Two of the paintings in the exhibit were featured in the opening scene of the 2021 film The Electrical Life of Louis Wain starring Benedict Cumberbatch. Never before have this many original Louis Wain works been on display together in the US!
The six original Wain pieces will be accompanied in the exhibit by more than 60 other cat-themed works from 40+ international artists, all using Wain as their muse. The collection includes felted wood dolls, ceramic sculptures, stained glass, mosaics, paintings and drawings, creating a multi-media homage to the styles that Wain explored over the years.
An opening reception will be held on Friday, May 30 from 6 to 10 pm. The exhibit will run through June 20, 2025 with a special event taking place on the evening of June 6 during Denver’s Santa Fe Arts District First Friday Art Walk. There will also be a ticketed closing party in conjunction with the MAPS Psychedelic Science Conference on the night of June 19.
