This is one of the finest examples of Catification I’ve ever seen. This breathtaking modern modern interior is the creation of Taiwanese interior design firm Thinking Design. The 1,000 square foot apartment is filled with sleek cat climbing surfaces to accommodate the resident tabby. Every element is integrated seamlessly and beautifully.
The contrast of the rough hewn natural tree trunk with clean white shelves adds a nice visual element to the design and a natural scratching surface for kitty.
Also, notice the simple paw print opening on what I assume is the litter box cabinet.
This is such a perfect example of how to integrate feline family members into an elegant and livable space (of course, the cat still sits on the laptop occasionally.)
These spectacular photos were taken by Taiwanese photography studio Hey! Cheese.
Structural question: How did he engineer the shelves to be so narrow in profile and yet appear as floating shelves? I’ve been wanting to make floating, reasonably narrow-profile cat shelves but I can’t figure it out!
I’d like to know myself. I’d consider using stainless steel wire running from the ceiling to support the edges of the floating shelves.
I was going to ask the same question! I can only think it was done with some drilled cores & posts that the shelves slide onto. Or some other type of hook that hangs on the screw head.
Floating catwalk is made using 1×8 lumber for the walkway and 1×4 lumber for the back. Use good wood glue and drywall screws to join them. Use a piece of quarter round trim and apply glue and trim nails to provide extra strength for heaver cats. Use a small router to finish the mounting…Paint to match…install carpet to protect sensitive kitty feet and use color matching vinyl J-Channel to dress up exposed faces, See the entire project at:
I wish I was a cat!!…. got some pretty good ideas!!
of course, the spot the resident tabby chooses is on the computer.
LOL – That’s just what I was thinking. Cats the world over choose to sit on the keyboard!
…that funny!!….I tough it was just my cat!!…. he supppper looooves me !!! when Im ehe computer….. like now….
When I lived in the city, I could hardly find a space dedicated for “cats play area.” Transforming part of the bookshelves as a cat play area was a clever space-saving solution. It also looks good with the overall design.
Absolutely gorgeous!
Wow, what an awesome space!
One question: Would that fine stripesider and his/her caregiver like to adopt us? WHEN DO WE MOVE IN? 😉 GORGEOUS!
