A friend recently gave me a deck of Tarot Cards for Cats as a joke, but it turns out to be one of the most entertaining things I’ve read in a while! I’ve never really studied how tarot cards work, but I’ve always loved them for their intricate illustrations. And when you add cats! Well, it doesn’t get much better.
We laid out the deck for Mama Cat (one of the Hauspanther studio cats) to investigate. She was mildly entertained, but we enjoyed the lovely illustrations by Kipling West immensely.
The best part, though, is the little booklet that comes with the cards. Written by Regen Dennis, this text will have you in stitches! It combines actual tarot instruction with witty guidance for cats. So funny! Here’s an excerpt describing THE FOOL card:
THE FOOL represents transitions, new experiences, and always, the quest for pleasure–with no looking back.
- You discover that climbing to the top of the telephone pole was more fun than climbing down will be.
- You drape your entire body across the radiator.
- You risk starvation rather than consume the tasteless kibble your human mindlessly substitutes for the tiny, tasty cans of “Ocean Tuna Feast.”
The Tarot for Cats book and card deck was published in 1996, so I don’t think you can find them new, but you can find used copies on Amazon for under $10. Totally worth it!

Kind of hoping someone will surprise me with a set, since you’re not supposed to buy tarot cards for yourself, right?
Traditionally, that’s true. I’ve read tarot for over 30 years years (feline and human) but these days with the Internet there is a separation from the buying. Hopefully someone will give you a gift.

Those look like a lot of fun. I bid on a mini tarot reading at the Winnie’s Wish auction and it would be with black cat cards 🙂 I hope I win.
I don’t know if being mentioned on hauspanther.com had any effect on the price, but today, on amazon, used ones are starting at $18.24 + 3.99 for shipping for “good” amd “very good” conditions. But they do still have new ones. And those are priced from whopping $34.99 + 3.99 for shipping!
They are extremely cute though….!!
I have been using Tarot of the Cat People for 30 years now. The art is fantastic. It is the only deck that I have been able to read with ease. I have 3 packs of that deck, one I keep in my truck.
