SansBug

The folks who make the SansBug pop-up mosquito net recently contacted me to report that they’ve had several customers write to tell them that their product can work quite well for cat containment, so they sent me one to try out myself. I was looking for an alternative to the big, clunky, hard to set-up cage we usually use when I bring cats to the studio, so I was interested to see how the SansBug worked out.

First, I set- it up in the living room at home, and of course it was immediately filled with cats. Anything new is explored right away, and they decided it makes a pretty good fort. Ando and Andy make themselves right at home.

I also took it to the studio on a day when Andy needed to come with me to do some modeling. You can see below how small it is when folded and how big it is when open, plus it takes literally 2 seconds to set-up, much better than the finger-pinching cage!

I set up the tent with all of Andy’s amenities and he was quite pleased with his new dressing room.

A few words of caution…

I would never use the SansBug for cats that are frantic about being contained, they could easily tear through the screen, it’s just not meant to withstand that kind of use, but for calm cats that just need to be contained in a small area, this is a great option. Also, NEVER leave cats unattended, especially outside, in the SansBug. This could be great for keeping kittens in a play area while you work, or like in my case to prevent cats from running all over in an unfamiliar place like my studio, which has lots of hiding places. Definitely use with caution, but lots of people are reporting that this is a great product for use with cats under the right circumstances.

The SansBug measures 86″ x 39″ x 35″ and folds down to a 26″ disc with carrying case. Available with a poly floor or a more durable tarp floor. $49 with free shipping on Amazon.
